Victory - Gove does u-turn over EBacc. The campaign initiated by NUT and NAHT to get Gove to abandon his plans to limit the educational opportunities of working class children through getting rid of GCSEs and bringing in the much narrower EBacc has scored a victory and forced Gove to back down. Gove is also at odds with many in his own department following the article in the Independent where he revealed his real plans for academies and free schools. The NUT has always maintained that the academy programme was part of a plan to privatize our education system - now there is proof from the mouth of Gove himself. If he gets his way then academies and free schools will be able to operate to make a profit and will be cut lose from all governmental control. All this is part of the war Gove is waging against teachers through Ofsted and the attacks on our pay. It is time for Gove to go before he completely wrecks education for teachers and pupils alike.
