Surprise, surprise - Michael Gove has approved the conversion of Sinfin Community School into an academy run by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust. The DfE claim that 56% of parents support the proposal. The NUT considers that the 'consultation' was a sham and since we were not allowed to have an independent scrutineer present to observe the count of returned consultation forms, we would ask, "56% of how many? This most certainly does not mean a majority of parents are in favour of the school becoming an academy and our members are still implacably opposed to this move. There is absolutely no evidence that becoming a Greenwood Dale academy will improve standards at Sinfin. The chain is just too young to make a judgement - it's like buying a car from someone who has only been making them for 2 years, just because they produce a glossy brochure and make dazzling promises!
