1ST OCTOBER - STAND UP FOR EDUCATION

Strike - March - Rally, that is the message for members of the NUT and NASUWT.

Michael Gove wants to force education back to the 19th Century.  National pay scales for teachers came into force in 1911 and were made mandatory just after the Second World War.  They were brought in to create a proper career structure for teachers and to stop schools having to compete against each other to attract good staff.  If Mr Gove gets his way we could see a total deregulation of education in this country with teachers being forced to jump through the hoops set by the government in order to progress in their career whether this is the right thing for the children we teach or not!  He also want to see more academies and free schools which do not have to employ qualified staff, can set their own terms and conditions and do not have to follow the national curriculum.  Mr Gove is also trying to narrow down the subjects and content we can teach our children and he won't listen to teachers on this. If we don't want to see a complete free for all in education now is the time to make a stand:
