Today Michael Gove was due to make a 'secret' visit to a Derby school. If he was proud of what he is doing to education then he would have come to Derby publicly and been prepared to face his critics rather than sneaking in unannounced.
In contrast last Saturday teachers from the NUT and their supporters were out in force at The Ram in Derby publicly campaigning against Mr Gove's attacks on teachers and the education we can offer our children. The leaflets and petitioning went down a storm and there were often queues of people at the petition boards. The response to our arguments about what sort of education we wanted to provide and how Michael Gove's ideological drive went against this was overwhelmingly positive. Parents, Grandparents, teachers, pupils and the public at large showed their disgust at everything Gove stands for by pledging their support for the NUT's Stand Up For Education campaign. Now we need to follow this up with a solid strike on 26th March.
