If you are a member of the NUT you should have received a Ballot Paper asking you to endorse the union's Stand Up For Education Campaign and sanction further strike action in the run up to the general election next year. Our action so far has won concessions from government and got rid of Gove! However, we have not yet won over pay, pensions or workload. Nicky Morgan (the new Gove) is said to be 'concerned' about workload and the results of the NUT's recent workload survey are truly shocking with over 90% saying they had thought about leaving teaching because of high workload and an astounding 96% saying their workload negatively affected their family and personal life! Some of you may have noticed that you have not received a pay rise, despite being promised 1%, others will not have received the increment rise they should be entitled to or gone through threshold. We can fight this on a school by school basis but we really need national strike action to get rid of the whole government imposed pay regime. We need to take further strike action and step up our campaigning around the new NUT Manifesto for Education or we will be leaving the field open for this and the next government to further attack teachers and education.
