Involving young teachers in the life of the union is a priority for the NUT, as they are the next generation of reps, activists and union leaders.
In that vein, we are looking to establish a regular calendar of young teachers' events that combine trades union activity and a sociable element, and Pride seemed a perfect fit.
Pride is a film about a group of workers locked in a long, drawn-out and vicious battle with a Tory government intent on destroying their industry (the 1984-5 miners' strike) - and the lesbian and gay campaigners who decided to show solidarity with them. It's a fantastic film and a must-see for anyone interested in their union and equality.
So why not see it with other young teachers - and have a chat about it and union activities afterwards?
We will be attending a showing this Friday evening (26th September) and having a social afterwards. If you are a young teacher (35 or under) and a member of the NUT in Derby, why not come along?
