STRIKE ON 5TH JULY

The NUT has called a one day strike on Tuesday 5th July. This action has been foced on us by the government's continued refusal to hold meaningful  discussions with the trades unions about cuts to school funding and threats to the terms and conditions of employment of teachers. 92% of those members who voted said a resounding YES to action.
The government's White Paper on education threatens all schools with academisation, thereby destroying any co-ordinated education system in this country. This does not only affect the working conditions of teachers but also the learning conditions of our pupils. On top of this, parents will be denied any say in how schools are run, initial teacher education will be simply 'training on the job' and head teachers will be responsible for deciding who is a 'qualified' teacher and who is not!
Despite the government stating that school budgets are to be protected, there have already been huge cuts and more are on the way. You don't have to be an economist to know that if a school budget stays the same while costs go up the result is a cut in what the school can spend on its children.
Support the strike - join City of Derby NUT in Derby Market Place at 10am for mass leafletting and a rally.
