How Hot is Too Hot? Advice for High Classroom Temperatures

As our mini-heatwave rolls on, a lot of teachers and students have been struggling in the heat.

In high temperatures it is difficult to concentrate, tempers start to fray and learning can be affected.

For some students and staff there might also be health considerations that make working in a hot classroom unsafe.

Although there are no statutory maximum temperatures for schools, the NUT has advice about the highest reasonable temperatures to expose adults and children to for any length of time.

The detailed advice is here: https://www.teachers.org.uk/help-and-advice/health-and-safety/h/high-classroom-temperatures

The headline figure? We recommend that classrooms should not be hotter than 26 degrees Celsius. NUT members with concerns should get a meeting together in your school and decide what action to take.
