The political situation is chaotic. Further cuts to health and other public services are being demanded by the government. They still want to go ahead with huge cuts to the education budget and continue to enforce real-terms pay cuts on public sector workers. If they get away with it this time, teachers will have seen cuts of around 17% in their pay over the last 5 years.
Feeling about this issue is strong. At our last Derby meeting we agreed as a Division to send a letter to the General Secretary urging national action up to and including strike action over the pay offer from the government.
We need a campaign to defeat these anti-education policies and the demonstration in Manchester on Sunday 1st October at the Conservative Party conference will be important in building this campaign.
There will be coaches going to the demonstration from Derby, leaving Derby Bus Station at 9.30 am and leaving Manchester around 4.30 pm. If you would like to join the Derby NEU delegation please get in touch and we will book you a seat!
We have two secretaries, you can get in touch with either:
