Are you getting your pay rise?

The Department for Education has decided to implement the pay recommendations of the STRB for 2017-18.

We view this as meaning that all teachers, at whatever point on the pay scale they are, should receive a pay increase.

Schools should award:
  • 2% for all main scale teachers
  • 1% for all UPS teachers
  • 1% for allowances such as TLRs and SEN allowances.
More detailed guidance, including pay scales for 2017-18 can be found in the Joint Advice on School Teachers' Pay 2017-18 document here. More advice is available on the NEU website here.

This advice has been issued by the National Education Union and other education unions and professional associations, including the head teachers' unions ASCL and NAHT.

All heads will have been sent a copy of this advice - so make sure your school is delivering this minimum for all staff!

If you have concerns that this advice is not being followed in your school, approach your rep about organising a meeting. If you have no rep, get in touch with either of the Joint Secretaries to discuss further what can be done!

Teachers have had a cumulative pay cut of 14% over the last 7 years, and this below-inflation increase is the very least that you should be offered!
