Derby Stand Up To Racism Campaign: Help Refugees, Keep Racists out of Football!

The NUT section is proud to support Stand Up To Racism both nationally and locally.

The local group is organising a couple of events - please see below for details.

Derby Stand up to Racism had a small but lively meeting on Monday 6th November where we discussed the potential racist threat of the Football Lads' Alliance. The meeting decided to hold a leafletting session at Pride Park before the Derby v Burton game on 2nd December. We will be leafletting on the positive message - Football for All. Please let us know if you can come and help and we will let you know details.

We also decided to continue to support the Syrian Refugee family in Findern and took them to a social event in Melbourne last Saturday. They are in desperate need of winter coats; shoes and other clothes; rugs (or better still fitted carpets); a TV that can get Arabic programmes; a mobile phone; two wardrobes and a lot of other stuff! We are asking for shop vouchers so that they can buy things that really fit. If you can help out, IKEA, Argos, Intu, Primark, TKMax, etc. vouchers can be sent to us at Derby Stand up to Racism, c/o NEU Office, Suite 2.10, Southgate Business Centre, Normanton Road, Derby, DE23 6UQ. You will get a receipt and we will let you know what the family gets with your donation. We will also be writing to trades unions to ask them to fund some of the bigger items.

On Saturday 25th November Derby SUTR is having a stall at Compassionate Derby between 10.30am and 4.30pm at St Peter's Church, Derby, DE1 1SN. If you can help out on the stall at any time during the day, please let us know - it should be a brilliant event check it out at http://www.compassionatederby.com/

Other events on the agenda were Stand up to Racism Trades Union Conference on 10th February 2018 and International Anti Racism Day Demonstration 17th March 2018 - put these dates in your diary. SUTR will also be supporting a Peace and Social Justice Concert in Derby some time in 2018.

Our next monthly meeting is Monday 4th December at the NEU Office - please come (use the rear car park and the back door.)
