7. Report from Derby Pride 2019

This year's Pride was the biggest for many years and incredibly lively and positive!

Our LGBT+ Equalities Officer, Kelcie Atkins, has put together a report. You can See the pictures and read the report here!

This year the NEU were proud as always to be at Derby's LGBT+ pride. We were pleased to see new members join us at both the march and the union's stall.

The union gave out a selection of flags, placards, and whistles to various members of the community. These were seen alongside the NEU's banner promoting 'Inclusion not exclusion' and throughout the pride parade.

NEU members were also able to interact with people, promoting support for inclusive policies for schools and handing out the union's LGBT+ materials.

"It was nice to meet people in the union. A bunch of friendly people. And it was good to speak to parents and other people involved with school who weren't aware of what we were doing (like the leaflets)." - Sarah, Further Education Teacher

We were also pleased to be joined by a member who recently started their PGCE, who we hope to see again at some of our other events in the future.

The union has many groups for LGBT+ members. These include regional groups for all LGBT+ members and national groups that support intersectionality such as: the LGBT+ women's network, the Trans and Non-binary network, the Black LGBT+ network, the Disabled LGBT+ network, and the Bisexual network.
