Whilst we would disagree with the author's claim that education funding is at its highest ever, because per pupil funding is actually lower than in 2010 and increased costs imposed by the government through academisation, pension contributions and national insurance, and now the crisis in SEND funding means that funding is actually lower now than 2010 in real terms, nevertheless it is the case that if teachers are not paid appropriately in line with other graduate professions it will further fuel the recruitment and retention crisis that has been steadily growing over the last decade.
We should be demanding both pay rises in schools and colleges and increased funding from the Treasury to cover it.
The increased funding announced by the government recently is welcome, but it does not address the years of underfunding. See more here: https://neu.org.uk/funding/empty-promise-boris
