Derby takes part in COP 26 protests - great support from NEU members

COP 26 may be a vital opportunity to seriously redress climate change, but it is also one in which major polluters are not showing serious commitments to rapid reductions in CO2 this decade. Fossil fuel companies have the largest single delegation to COP 26, and our own government is talking up its green credentials while planning to open a new oil and gas field and refusing to rule out opening a new coal mine.

Novara Media have a good summary of the problems with COP 26 here.

The local protest organised by Derby Climate Coalition brought together around 200 people from an inspriational range of community groups, trades unionists and political parties.

Well done to James Naughton, Past President, for his MC'ing and speech, and for leading the march on our chants of SYSTEM CHANGE NOT CLIMATE CHANGE and NO MORE BLAH BLAH BLAH!

We are in the last decade to make serious reductions in greenhouse emissions. We will need to step up our activities within our union and with other groups if this goal is to be achieved.
