It may have started out rainy, but the great mood at Pride must have forced the clouds away because it soon brightened up!
Derby Pride was at Markeaton Park this year and it was a great event. There was very much a party atmosphere, but the NEU stall was really busy. Not only was there a great reception to our policies on inclusive education but great conversations about the pay ballots which have begun.
Most of those who came up to talk to us were in education, worked in education or were parents, and many shared stories of how their schools were positive places to be LGBT+, but others also told us of times they had been made to feel uncomfortable or unsupported. We want every school to be a place where all children can flourish as themselves, and that goal is still not accomplished.
It was also great to have a bit of inter-union sororising! Shout out to our comrades in Derby UNISON!
