General Secretary ELECTION! Vote for Daniel Kebede!

Well, it's finally here: the NEU begins today the vote for our first elected General Secretary!

Ballot papers will arrive on doormats from today. This election is really important - the General Secretary is the face of the union and will lead on implementing the policies decided by members at Annual Conference.

We urge you to use your vote.

We recommend voting Daniel Kebede 1 and don't forget: it's not a vote until it's in the post!

As a District, we have nominated Daniel Kebede as the preferred candidate. Daniel has been a visible and effective activist in the union, supporting the campaign to get the ballot on pay and funding from the beginning. He has been tireless in his campaigning over issues of equality in education. Those of us who attended the training sessions he contributed to at our Big Weekend in September or who have been on demonstrations like the Chesterfield May Day or the massive June 18 demonstration in London know he is committed to education and a fairer society for us all.

During our hustings and nomination meeting both candidates made their pitch, Daniel was able to be clear about his vision for the union and his support for strikes across the public sector as well as the campaign within the NEU.

It's not surprising that after hearing from both candidates and their vision for the union that Daniel resoundingly won the votes of members to be our nominated candidate. He won the support of 101 Districts up and down the country, far and away the highest support of the two candidates.
