In the wake of the
recent news that the government is going to attempt to impose even
steeper pay cuts than the leaked pay body recommendation were proposing,
it's more important than ever that we use our next strike dates to send a
strong message that we won't accept more pay and funding cuts in
education.
The most impact on
strike days has come from our fantastic, vibrant and creative picket
lines. We've made headlines in the local media and been able to make our
case to the public through this simple and highly visible method. Our
local marches and rallies have also been brilliant at bringing people
together and making a public impact.
We need
pickets more than ever, so if
you're planning to hold one but don't have a rep, please get in touch!
We've made a SHORT Google Form to fill in so we can get in touch with you
quickly. Link here: https://bit.ly/plantopicket. (If you are a rep, make sure
you've told us that you're going to picket - email or WhatsApp us!)
Make sure you
publicise your picket - Tweet pictures and tag @DerbyCityNEU and @NEUEastMidlands and we'll retweet and put them on our Instagram for maximum impact.
If you'd
be happy for the press / media to visit your picket, please email kieran.picken@neu.org.uk

One thing we want to
do with these strike dates is to reach out to the public and build
alliances particularly with parents. We'll make sure you have leaflets
and petitions for your pickets aimed at parents and carers.
As part of this we are
also organising a Picnic in the Park at Markeaton Park from 10.00 - 12.00
on Wednesday 5th. There will be refreshments, ice creams and samosas
available, and we'll have a stall to speak with the public about the
campaign and get as many signatures on our petition calling for more
funding and pay in the education system as we can.
So after your picket, come and
join us!

The picnic will be near
the lake and cafe at Markeaton Park. Click here to see the location on Google Maps. We can
support with parking costs as needed.
You can also get
picnic details by scanning this QR Code:

On Friday 7th July
there will be a strike breakfast followed by a stall in the city centre -
more details soon.
Finally: REBALLOT - IT'S NOT A
VOTE UNTIL IT'S IN THE POST!
The
REBALLOT of teacher and support
staff members is ongoing. It's VITAL to get as MASSIVE a TURNOUT on these
ballots as possible. It's NOT just about beating the legal threshold -
although we can't continue to take action if we don't - it's ALSO about
sending the strongest possible message to the government that we will
keep up the pressure until we WIN FUNDING AND PAY for EDUCATION.
So don't
delay - get your vote in the post today!

Solidarity
- see you on the pickets!

District Secretary, Derby City NEU
