Strike Day 5th July 2023

For today's strike we decided to do things a little differently.

Of course we still picketed! Pickets are the best!

Derby has become well-known for our brilliant, energetic marches on strike days. But we wanted to go for something a little quieter today, where we could speak to the public about our campaign. We know that the majority of the public support a better deal on pay and funding in education, but we want to build on that support wherever we can to bring maximum pressure on the government and bring this dispute to a close as quickly as possible.

Also, teachers work the most unpaid overtime of any profession, so relaxing a little on a strike day seemed like a good idea too!

So we organised a picnic and petition session at Markeaton Park. It was really fun and relaxed. We had some great conversations with the public and filled several pages of our petition to get a decent settlement from the government on pay and funding in education.

Our next strike day is this FRIDAY 7th JULY unless the government comes to the table with a serious offer - so #PayUpRishi and #DoYourJobGill!
