Derby NUT events great success

We would like to thank everyone who helped make our events on Friday and Saturday last week such a fantastic success!

Friday and Saturday were an experiment for us, as we held four events over two days. We had fantastic attendance and in general the feedback was really positive. Thanks to everyone who gave feedback - this will help us to organise future events which hopefully will be even more successful.

General Meeting

At our general meeting (4.30 - 5.30 pm) we were able to agree the following:
  • That the government's pay offer was not acceptable and as a Division we would be writing to the General Secretary urging a national ballot for strike action in the autumn.
  • That we would publicise school strikes that occur around the country.
  • To urge individual members to write to the General Secretary calling for strike action.
  • To nominate Kauser Jan for Vice-President.
  • Future meetings were also discussed. Feedback from Friday and Saturday will be used to help plan for this.

CPD Session on Behaviour Management

We had 30 people for CPD on behaviour management, which was run by our President Steph King who teaches in a pupil referral unit. The feedback was really positive from the event and the general feeling was that it was a very useful session. We hope to offer more CPD sessions in future.

Quiz and Social

The quiz was also a big success! The winners got every teacher's dream - a box of stationery! The losers (which in this case was the team which included the President, both joint Secretaries and members of the Committtee, somewhat embarrassingly) got some examples of semi-colons that the DfE might (or might not) accept. The whereabouts of last year's booby prize, a framed picture of Nicky Morgan, is currently unknown.

The quiz master was strict but fair!

Reps Training - Working Together in the NEU; The Practical Guide to Being A Rep

The following morning we had a session of reps training, covering the ways that the new union will work in practise and different ways to be the rep in school. We had a mixture of experienced reps and new reps and it was a really positive session.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen, and everyone who came. We hope you had a fantastic time and that we will see you at future events!
