Thanks for a fantastic AGM!

Our AGM on Friday 2nd February was a great success, one of our largest and liveliest in years. Thanks to all of you who came - and hopefully had a great time!

We were able to discuss and pass three motions - these have been published in a separate blog post here: https://cityofderbyneu.blogspot.com/2018/02/pay-academies-and-anti-racism-derbys.html

We had great discussions around these motions about teachers' pay; academisation and local democracy; racism, Ofsted and the hijab.

We also nominated Daniel Kebede for Black Teachers Officer.

With some sadness we said goodbye to two of our officers who have retired this year. Sue Arguile has been our Division Secretary for 6 years, and during that time has done an enormous amount to increase the visibility and activity of the union in the city. She has also helped innumerable teachers during her time in office and many people wanted to add their thanks to the committee's.

Norman Todd, who took on the Health & Safety Officer's role two years ago and has done some sterling work behind the scenes as well as being a committed activist who has often helped out at stalls and events over the last few years.

Our committee is larger this year with more people taking officers' positions, and a full slate of delegates for national conference, which is fantastic. Our President Steph King gave a fantastic speech, and Louise Regan, this year's National President, was our guest of honour who also gave us a few words.

It was also a pleasure to have Wendy Hardy, the ATL Section Secretary, join us at the event.

The venue was Slice of India and people seemed to have a great time at the President's Reception!
