Teachers & Mental Health

Mental health for both students and staff who work in schools is a major issue. The high-stakes assessment regime and narrowing curriculum have put huge pressure on students to fit into an education system that increasingly only values certain kinds of knowledge and skills. In addition the educators who are required to administer this system face pressures of increasing workload and the burden of educating in a way that we know does not fit many of our students.

Our member Saroj recently attended the Teachers and Mental Health Workshop and brought back this helpful resource for our members. You can download the whole resource as a PDF by following this link.

At our most recent General Meeting, members agreed that this year the union in the city should have a focus on child-centred education, which would go a long way to making our schools more friendly places for everyone. If you haven't already, we would encourage you to sign up to our FREE event Assessment: The Alternative, on Saturday 29th February in Nottingham. Details and tickets can be found by following this link.
